Metal casting process begins by creating a mold, which is the ‘reverse’ shape of the part we need. The mold is made from a refractory material, for example, sand. The metal is heated in an oven until it melts, and the molten metal is poured into the mould cavity. The liquid takes the shape of cavity, which is the shape of the part. It is cooled until it solidifies. Finally, the solidified metal part is removed from the mould.

Cast Iron (also known as Gray Iron) material is relatively easy and inexpensive to make. It has lower tensile strength and lower ductility. In close grained cast iron, a large part or all of the carbon is in the form of flakes or nodules of graphite. Cast Iron material is used where tensile strength is non-critical. The valves made out of Cast Iron material is widely used in fluid handling systems for river water irrigation and sewerage systems, public ultilities, water lines and industrial plants.
